Step By Step Page Optimization

Starting at the top of your index/home page something like this:
(After your logo or header graphic)

1) A heading tag that includes a keyword(s) or keyword phrases. A heading
tag is bigger and bolder text than normal body text, so a search engine
places more importance on it because you emphasize it.

2) Heading sizes range from h1 - h6 with h1 being the largest text. If you
learn to use just a little Cascading Style Sheet code you can control the
size of your headings. You could set an h1 sized heading to be only
slightly larger than your normal text if you choose, and the search engine
will still see it as an important heading.

3) Next would be an introduction that describes your main theme. This
would include several of your top keywords and keyword phrases. Repeat
your top 1 or 2 keywords several times, include other keyword search

terms too, but make it read in sentences that makes sense to your
visitors.

4) A second paragraph could be added that got more specific using other
words related to online education.

5) Next you could put smaller heading.

6) Then you'd list the links to your pages, and ideally have a brief decision of
each link using keywords and keyword phrases in the text. You also want
to have several pages of quality content to link to. Repeat that procedure
for all your links that relate to your theme.

7) Next you might include a closing, keyword laden paragraph. More is not
necessarily better when it comes to keywords, at least after a certain
point. Writing "online education" fifty times across your page would
probably result in you being caught for trying to cheat. Ideally,
somewhere from 3% - 20% of your page text would be keywords. The
percentage changes often and is different at each search engine. The 3-
20 rule is a general guideline, and you can go higher if it makes sense
and isn't redundant.

8) Finally, you can list your secondary content of book reviews, humor, and
links. Skip the descriptions if they aren't necessary, or they may water
down your theme too much. If you must include descriptions for these
non-theme related links, keep them short and sweet. You also might
include all the other site sections as simply a link to another index that
lists them all. You could call it Entertainment, Miscellaneous, or whatever.

These can be sub-indexes that can be optimized toward their own theme,
which is the ideal way to go.

Now you've set the all important top of your page up with a strong theme.
So far so good, but this isn't the only way you can create a strong theme so
don't be compelled into following this exact formula. This was just an
example to show you one way to set up a strong site theme. Use your
imagination, you many come up with an even better way.

The Home Page

Your homepage is the most important page on your web site. If you concentrate your most important keywords and key phrases in your homepage many times, the search engines will surely notice and index it accordingly. But will it still read easily and will the sentences flow freely to your real human visitors? There are some good
chances that it might not. As a primer, having just 40 or 50 words on your homepage will not deliver the message effectively. To be powerful and effective, a homepage needs at least 300 to 400 words for maximum search engine throughput and ffectiveness.

One way to do that is to increase your word count with more value-added
content. This often means rewriting your whole homepage all over again.
The main reason to this is you will probably never have enough room to
skillfully work your important keywords and key phrases into the body text
of your homepage. This may not please your boss or marketing department,
but a full re-write is often necessary and highly advisable to achieve high
rankings in the engines, while at the same time having a homepage that will
please your site visitors and convert a good proportion of them into real
buyers.

Understanding Your Target Customer

If you design a website you think will attract clients, but you don t really know who your customers are and what they want to buy, it is unlikely you make much money. Website business is an extension or replacement for a standard storefront. You can send email to your existing clients and ask them to complete a survey or even while they are browsing on your website.
Ask them about their choices. Why do they like your products? Do you discount prices or offer coupons? Are your prices consistently lower than others? Is your shipping price cheaper? Do you respond faster to client questions? Are your product descriptions better? Your return policies and guarantees better than your competitor s? To know your customer you can check credit card records or ask your customer to complete a simple contact form with name, address, age, gender, etc. when they purchase a product.

Ranking Rules Of Thumb

The simple rule of thumb is that content counts, and that content near the top of a page counts for more than content at the end. In particular, the HTML title and the first couple lines of text are the most important part of your pages. If the words and phrases that match a query happen to appear in the HTML title or first couple lines of text of one of your pages, chances are very good that that page will appear high in the list of search results.

A crawler/spider search engine can base its ranking on both static factors (a
computation of the value of page independent of any particular query) and
query-dependent factors.

Values

Long pages, which are rich in meaningful text (not randomly generated letters and words).

Pages that serve as good hubs, with lots of links to pages that that have related content (topic similarity, rather than random meaningless links, such as those generated by link exchange programs or intended to generate a false impression of "popularity").

The connectivity of pages, including not just how many links there are to a page but where the links come from: the number of distinct domains and the "quality" ranking of those particular sites. This is calculated for the site and also for individual pages. A site or a page is "good" if many pages at many different sites point to it, and especially if many "good" sites point to it.

The level of the directory in which the page is found. Higher is considered more important. If a page is buried too deep, the crawler simply won't go that far and will never find it.

These static factors are recomputed about once a week, and new good pages slowly percolate upward in the rankings. Note that there are advantages to having a simple address and sticking to it, so others can build links to it, and so you know that it's in the index

Query-Dependent Factors

The HTML title.

The first lines of text.

Query words and phrases appearing early in a page rather than late.

Meta tags, which are treated as ordinary words in the text, but like words that appear early in the text (unless the meta tags are patently unrelated to the content on the page itself, in which case the page will be penalized)

Words mentioned in the "anchor" text associated with hyperlinks to your pages. (E.g., if lots of good sites link to your site with anchor text "breast cancer" and the query is "breast cancer," chances are good that you will appear high in the list of matches.)

Blanket Policy On Doorway Pages And Cloaking

Many search engines are opposed to doorway pages and
cloaking. They consider doorway and cloaked pages to be
spam and encourage people to use other avenues to
increase the relevancy of their pages. We ll talk about
doorway pages and cloaking a bit later

Crawler/Spider Considerations

Also, consider technical factors. If a site has a slow connection, it might time-out for the crawler. Very complex pages, too, may time out before the crawler can harvest the text.

If you have a hierarchy of directories at your site, put the most important information high, not deep. Some search engines will presume that the higher you placed the information, the more important it is. And crawlers may not venture deeper than three or four or five directory levels.

Above all remember the obvious - full-text search engines such index text. You may well be tempted to use fancy and expensive design techniques that either block search engine crawlers or leave your pages with very little plain text that can be indexed. Don t fall prey to that temptation.

Do You Know The GOOGLE Dance?

The Algorithm Shuffle

Because of the nature of Page Rank, the calculations need to be performed about 40 times and, because the index is so large, the calculations take several days to complete. During this period, the search results fluctuate; sometimes minute-by minute. It is because of these fluctuations that the term, Google Dance , was coined. The dance usually takes place sometime during the last third of each month.

Google has two other servers that can be used for searching. The search
results on them also change during the monthly update and they are part of
the Google dance.

For the rest of the month, fluctuations sometimes occur in the search results, but they should not be confused with the actual dance. They are due to Google's fresh crawl and to what is known "Everflux".

Google has two other searchable servers apart from www.google.com. They are www2.google.com and www3.google.com. Most of the time, the results on all 3 servers are the same, but during the dance, they are different.

For most of the dance, the rankings that can be seen on www2 and www3 are the new rankings that will transfer to www when the dance is over. Even though the calculations are done about 40 times, the final rankings can be seen from very early on. This is because, during the first few iterations, the calculated figures merge to being close to their final figures.

You can see this with the Page Rank Calculator by checking the Data box and performing some calculations. After the first few iterations, the search results on www2 and www3 may still change, but only slightly.

During the dance, the results from www2 and www3 will sometimes show on the www server, but only briefly. Also, new results on www2 and www3 can disappear for short periods. At the end of the dance, the results on www will match those on www2 and www3.

Back Links Are Considered Popularity Votes

Quintessentially, Google calculates the importance of a page by the number of such „votes it receives. Not only that, Google also assesses the importance of the
pages that are involved in the voting process. Consequently, pages that are themselves ahead in ranking and are important in that way also help to make other pages important. One thing to note here is that Google s technology does not involve human intervention in anyway and uses the inherent intelligence of the internet and its resources to determine the ranking and importance of any page

Page Rank Based On Popularity

The web search technology offered by Google is often the technology of choice of the world s leading portals and websites. It has also benefited the advertisers with its unique advertising program that does not hamper the web surfing experience of its users but still brings revenues to the advertisers.

When you search for a particular keyword or a phrase, most of the search engines return a list of page in order of the number of times the keyword or phrase appears on the website. Google web search technology involves the use of its indigenously designed Page Rank Technology and hypertext-matching analysis which makes several instantaneous calculations undertaken without any human intervention. Google s structural design also expands simultaneously as the internet expands.

Page Rank technology involves the use of an equation which comprises of millions of variables and terms and determines a factual measurement of the significance
of web pages and is calculated by solving an equation of 500 million variables and more than 3 billion terms.
Unlike some other search engines, Google does not calculate links, but utilizes the extensive link structure of the web as an organizational tool. When the link to a Page, let s say Page B is clicked from a Page A, then that click is attributed as a vote towards Page B on behalf of Page A.

Why is it easier to rank with long tail keywords?

Long Tail Theory

Have you wondered why experts recommend the use of developing pages to capture
traffic for long tail keywords ? First, it should be emphasised that it is a tactic that works! So
let’s examine the long tail theory in more detail.
Although Google’s algorithm is in a state of flux, some core elements remain unchanged.
Recently we have seen more emphasis on “freshness”. So new pages (or posts) will have
a good chance of ranking well on less competitive keyword phrases.
Remember Google’s prime aim is to produce SERPs that are relevant to the quer y. Most of
their effort is focused on competitive phrases as these are terms being searched more
frequently and there are more pages offering the relevant information. In such cases the
algorithm will consider: domain age, authority, relevant link quality, link diversity, link
anchor text, website activity by a user and localisation (for reference let’s call these factors
- Factor X ). So in this case, the much touted on page optimisation will have less effect.
Now consider a search query for a long tail keyword phrase and the long tail theory . By its
ver y nature, google will not be able to find so many matching pages. There will be less
sites with Factor X characteristics, and so on page optimisation and “freshness” becomes
a key factor. Inevitably it will be easier to rank with long tail keywords. As freshness wears
off, you often see the page slip in the SERPs.

Effect on short tail keywords

Of course, most of the potential traffic will be coming from 1, 2 or 3 keyword phrases (note:
this is not always the most targeted traffic - long tail keyword phrases will be more targeted
and can lead to better conversions). Getting good rankings on long tail keywords DOES
have an effect on rankings of your short tail keyword phrases over a period of time.
So “buy maclaren twin strollers” may not have much traffic (note: ver y targeted and has an
important BUY signal) but you are building up authority on “maclaren” and “twin strollers”.
Concentrating on creating posts with “maclaren” in many long tail phrases will eventually
lead to better rankings with maclaren!
Hope you enjoyed our long tail theory !

On Page SEO factors

The first and easy step (relatively easy - as it is more in your control) is making sure that
the on page SEO factors are addressed. Typically here are some of the factors:
KEYWORDS
Keyword in URL
Keyword in Domain name
Keywords - Header
Keyword in Title tag
Keyword in Description meta tag
Keyword in Keyword meta tag
Keywords - Body
Keyword density in body text
Individual keyword density
Keyword in H1, H2 and H3
Keyword font size
Keyword proximity (for 2+ keywords) ….. this is just a selection - there are about 30 more!
Some of these are less important than others - for the latest list about on page factors, and
comments about their validity see here >> On Page SEO factors .
In addition, SEO adviser would recommend reading articles about Themes / Silos and LSI
(latent semantic indexing). These are becoming VERY important.

How do 'Spider' Search Engines work?

Search Engines work by 'spidering' the Web and indexing all the Web pages it finds under specific heading or 'keyword'. When someone goes to a Search Engine and enters specific 'keyword' or key phrase, every page relevant to those 'keywords' is listed in order of importance. The idea is to ensure that your Web site comes out near the top for critical keywords related to your product or service. The use of Dynamic Submission goes a long way to achieving these goals.

How Spider Engines work?
After you submit your web site to the engines, your URL will be first stored in a "temporary" database, and then the search engines will send a "robot" or "spider" later in a regular time to "visit" your web site and determine whether your web site to be indexed or not. Most major engines will "spide" your web site more than 2 weeks, while some other engines may take more than 6 weeks

Why does my position on Search Engines constantly change?

The criteria used by Search Engines for ranking Web sites is based on so many variables that it is almost impossible to precisely predict where your site will be positioned from one day to the next. Such factors include: the number of other pages (sites) using similar 'keywords', keyword relevancy to the contents of your web site, cross link within your web site, how many external links to your web site, constantly changing listing criteria (algorithms) used by Search Engines and many other factors. This is why it is important to regularly submit your Web site details to every Search Engine and Web directory using a submission program like Dynamic Submission, and then to check its effectiveness with Dynamic Web Ranking. Working hand in hand they will provide the tools to ensure prominent exposure for your Web site on all those important Web resources.

How to improve my web ranking?

The best way to improve your odds of getting listed--and highly ranked--on any search engine or directory is to use the right words. Please use all the tools we provided within the Dynamic Submission to optimize your web site and move your site to the top position on all major search engines by the keywords you selected.

With directories, those words include choosing the proper category where your site should be listed, and making sure that your pages are interesting enough to catch the editor's eye. Creativity can be the key to getting a good directory listing.

You need to be creative in a different way to attract a search engine's attention. Search engine spiders sort and rank sites using "keywords"--terms that they think describe the content on your site. These keywords can be located in one or more places on your page: the title, the first few paragraphs of text, and inside Meta tags on your pages. Not all search engines look for keywords in all those places, however. And some weight words in different places higher than in other places.

The content of your web page is the key to get your web site to be list on the search engines. If your web site is only designed for "Good Looking" such as contain only the images, flash, javascript etc, but there are no "valuable" contents on the page, your web site will be simply ignored by the search engines because the search engines will index web sites which contain the "valuable information" not just "good looking" image. What is Doorway Page?

Doorway page is also called entrance page, or information. Generally what it means is a web page that specifically designed contains more relavent keywords in a single page in order to rank higher in the spider search engines.

Common web pages usually are very board targeted and not themed around particular keywords or phrases because your average web pages are unfocused and not optimized properly.

A doorway page is a web page specifically designed to rank high in the Search Engines for a specific keyword or keyword phrase. Its NOT just a blank page with a link that redirects to your main page, but a powerful, content rich page packed with your keywords.

If you have web pages with specific subject areas, products, services or even localities then specific doorway pages can be created for each one, concentrating on the keyword content and meta tags specific to those pages. In this way, a travel site, for example, could create doorway pages for each of its destinations. A page specifically dedicated to search engine content for Los Angles, for example, will have a better chance in the search engine rankings than a page which tries to cover all bases - and be readable!

Search Engines generally give priority to URLs that contain keywords. It is therefore worthwhile considering the registration of keyword-rich domain names for your doorway pages. Using the above example, a doorway page for Los Angles could have the name www.los-angles-travel-tourism-tourist.com, remembering that these URLs are for Search Engines only and that customer information is still only found on your central site. Customers can enter at these doorway domain pages from Search Engines and then click-on to the central domain. Once the customer has arrived from the search engine the doorway page/URL has done its job.

Once you have selected your keywords and phrases (about 50 would be the normal) you need to build a doorway page for each keyword and ideally, for each major search engine. All the major engines look for different keyword density in the text, title and description so you need to do some research by doing a search using your chosen phrase or keyword and studying the top 10 results at each engine (if you can spot them, study high ranking doorway pages).

When you're ready to submit your pages to the Search Engines, submit only one page each day. If you've created several pages you'd like to submit, you may want to create an additional page that contains links to each of your doorway pages. That way, you can submit just your link page and let the Search Engines crawl the rest of your links.

Creating doorway pages is a powerful way to increase your website traffic, but don't stop at just one. Imagine how much traffic you'd receive with 100 keyword packed doorway pages all pointing to your website.

How to find out who's Linking to you

Google: Type into search box: link:www.yourdomain.com This will give you a general estimate of your popularity. It will also tell you approximately how many pages from your site are listed with google.

AltaVista: Type into search box: link:yourdomain.com This will give you all of the pages which link to you, the same as google.

AllTheWeb: Type into search box: link:yourdomain.com. Again, this may give you some of the pages which are linking to you.

How to increase link popularity:

Reciprocal Links
There are varying opinions on whether or not to get reciprocal links and if you do, where you should put them. Here is our opinion - The internet is a web and it is joined by links. If you are offering good resources, people will bookmark your site and come back. If you aren't, they won't. Part of offering resources is suggesting other places to find information. We're not suggesting that you put links off your site on your home page, we're not suggesting that all you do is to provide a directory of other links.

We started with a one page resource directory. From there, we built it up to over 10 pages of links that go to sites that have content similar to our own. We started by simply linking to anything related to us. Now we are more fussy. We will only link to a site that will place a reciprocal link to us and we only link to sites that have quality content. (Yeah, it's a lot of work to maintain that small directory).

Online Directories
Getting listings in directories will not only boost your traffic, it will also increase your link popularity. It is especially relevant to link popularity because these directories are mega popular (remember the more popular a site is that links to you, the more popular your site will be rated).

Dynamic Link Promoter is a powerful tool to improve link popularity and help to promote their web site and link pages over the Internet. It will help you maintain your reciprocal links, generate new links from search engines, automatically send "Personalized" link invitation messages, track and verify your link partners, create link pages automatically and promote them. What is Link Popularity?

Link popularity and click popularity are determined by each search engine. AltaVista may calculate a high popularity for your site, whereas Infoseek may calculate a low popularity for your site. Each search engine may also use the popularity information in different ways. It will all depend on their specific algorithms.

Popularity is becoming more widely used by search engines. Therefore, it is a very important consideration when trying to increase your ranks. Hypothetically, if you have two sites that have equal content and equal meta tags, then the site with more popularity will rank higher.

The link popularity of your site is determined by:
The number of web sites that are linking to your site (the web page that your link appears on, must be indexed by the search engine - just using those "free-for-all-links-pages" is not the kind of link that you're looking for.), The popularity of the sites are that are linking to your site and the similarity of the content on sites that link to your site. Link popularity is used by every search engine to some extent. Ways to increase link popularity will be discussed below.

Click popularity:

· Click popularity is the number of clicks that your site gets when it comes up on a search. So if your site is number 3 for a search, and it is being clicked on by people more than number 2, you can potentially move ahead of number 2. (If the engine uses click popularity in their algorithms.)

· Excite and Direct Hit use click popularity. Also, engines that are associated with Direct Hit, like Hotbot, indirectly use click popularity.

· You can increase click popularity by having a good title and a good description of your website in your meta tags

Pay Per Click Search Engines

If you want a guaranteed TOP position on all search engines, Pay-Per-Click search engine is what shall help you.

· What is a Pay-Per-Click search engine?

A Pay Per Click (also known as Pay Per Ranking, Pay Per Placement, Pay Per Performance or Pay Per Position) search engine enables you to list your site at a particular position of the search results according to the keyword bid. You list your website by selecting keywords that refer to your products or services. For each keyword you determine how much you are willing to spend and what position you want. The higher you bid the higher your site will appear in the search results. You can start your bid from 1 cent per click for most of the major PPC engines, some PPC engines have a minimum bid of 5 cents per click.

In Pay Per Click search engine you only pay for the clicks (or click through) to your web site. Pay-per-click search engine plays an important role to drive traffic to the web site because you only pay for actual clicks if some one click on your listing on the search results. It is risk free and a cheaper alternative to listing with the bigger search engines. Pay per click search engines usually combine paid listings with unpaid listings. Usually unpaid listing are provided by search engines like Google, Inktom or DMOZ. If there is no enough bidders (or listing) for a certain search term, part of the search results will come from those free search engines.

· Why place keyword bids on "Pay-Per-Click" search engines?

Recent study has shown that the "Pay-Per-Click" search engines have become the most effective way to get your web site to the TOP position of all major search engines. Overture.com is the clear leader in this field, and then FindWhat and Espotting (biggest PPC engine in UK and European market) comes in second . There are also many newcomers such as 7search.com, Kanoodle.com, Sprinks.com and Bay9.com.

Generally, most of these PPC engines are partnered with other free or pay-per-inclusion search engines. If you are bidding keywords in these PPC engines, your listing will also appear in all their partner sites.

Over years Overture.com has established relationships with many of the top search engines and directories, including Yahoo, AltaVista, American Online, Lycos, Netscape, Hotbot, MSN, Compuserve, NBCI and CNET. FindWhat has also partnered with Excite, HotBot and WebCrawler.

· So what do all these mean to you and how do you use these relationships for your benefit?

The Premium Listings(listings in one of TOP 3 positions ) in Overture.com will also be shown up at the TOP 3 positions on all above search engines when some one performs a search for one of your keywords, which reaches 75% of all internet users as Overture.com claimed. The first 3 positions from FindWhat will also be displayed in Excite, Hotbot and WebCrawler.

For example: Suppose you have a keyword "books" in one of Overture's top 3 positions. If a user types the keyword "books" in the search box of AltaVista, the results page will have your site listed at the very top. You'll have similar results at the other search engines that are powered with Overture listings.

If you are having problems to get your web site to be listed at the top position of the major search engines, placing your keyword bids on those "Pay-Per-Click" search engines is the most cost effective way to drive more target traffic to your web site.

Understanding Search Engines

Understanding Search EnginesThere are many types of search engines. According to the way of submission,

· General Engines - also call Spider Engine or Indexing Search Engines. For this type of engines, you don't need to submit your web site details. You just need to enter your web site URL and submit it . These engines will retrieve your web site details from the Meta Tag or the body of your web site automatically. Example is Google, AltaVista, etc.

· Directories - Internet Directories engines. Directories are not automatically generated but are compiled by editors. A website that is submitted to a directory is subsequently catalogued and linked to one or more topics. As the directories are set up by experienced editors, they generally produce more targeted results. Example is Yahoo.com .

· FFA - collections of Free for All pages (FFA) links. FFA are pages in which links to website can be entered together with a short comment. Owners of websites thereby enter the registration themselves, and there is no editing board to review the entries. It is free and becomes immediately effective

3. Random Posts Widget

If you have loyal visitors who come to your website on a daily basis, a popular article widget will become boring just because they see it every day, with same posts. A random posts widget will mix the articles so that the probability for a post to repeat will be very low.

One of the smartest ways to increase impressions, and also one that I like very much and is SEO friendly too. Create an article with containing more parts and include links in every part to create connections between them.

When you write an article try to add a link on used keywords to create a bound with another related article. Be careful with this type of interlinking because you might spam the visitors. Don’t add too many links stick to a maximum of 10.
These are the techniques I’ve experienced over the years and all of them did great. I’m sure that they will do great for you too but if you believe you know some other ways to increase page views just add a comment and let us know. I’ll be more than happy to include the idea in this article and don’t forget to subscribe to our RSS Feeds.

What's a Google AdSense "Page Impression"?

A page view (PV) or page impression is a request to load a single HTML file ('page') of an Internet site. On the World Wide Web a 'page' request would result from a web surfer clicking on a link on another 'page' pointing to the 'page' in question. This should be contrasted with a hit, which refers to a request for any file from a web server. There may therefore be many hits per 'page' view since an html 'file' can be made up of multiple pages.
These page views may be counted as part of web analytics. For the owner of the site this information can be useful to see if any change in the 'page' (such as the information or the way it is presented) results in more visits. If there are any advertisements on the page, the publishers would also be interested in the number of page views to determine their expected revenue from the ads. For this reason it is a term that is used widely for Internet based marketing and advertising.

Google define it as

A page impression is generated every time a user views a page displaying Google ads. We will count one page impression regardless of the number of ads displayed on that page. For example, if you have a page displaying three ad units and it is viewed twice, you will generate two page impressions and six ad unit impressions.

9 vital Sign for Web Traffic

Ask yourself the following questions:

1. Is the content dated?
2. Are you encouraging your visitors to join a list?
3. Are you driving discussion in your comments section?
4. Are you using a “Subscribe to Comments” plugin to bring commenters back to your site?
5. Are you using social bookmarking plugins?
6. Are you asking people to follow you on Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn?
7. Does your site have a clear focus?
8. Do your posts and articles generate controversy?
9. Does your site have personality, and/or is your persona in the visitor’s face?

The answers to these questions can make a world of difference in your repeat traffic, sales, clicks, and conversion rates.
You can take quick action to clean up a tired, boring site by simply changing the timestamps on your posts or updating your template or theme. Changing timestamps on an old site or removing them entirely from your theme can make your theme look less dated.
If you’ve got a good ethical bribe (free PDF or video), you can get your visitors to join a mailing list and email them on occasion with good reasons to return to your site. You can also use plugins to automatically email them every time you make a new post.
If you’re using WordPress, you can add some plugins for commenting and social bookmarking which will help your visitors find your site again.
Here’s a tip that will help you understand why people bookmark sites and how you can quickly make your site more bookmark-able. Look through your own bookmarks for clues as to why you bookmarked the sites you did. There might be content, tools, or gimmicks you can add to your own site to make it more sticky (i.e., more attractive to return visitors).
Another mistake site owners make is in not adding their own personal branding to the site. The more someone can identify with you, the more likely they are to bookmark your site, follow you on Twitter, and get engaged in your content. This can be as simple as adding your picture and bio in your sidebar, or creating a custom header graphic or background image to really promote yourself.
Finally, the absolute best thing you can do to get people to visit your site is to write compelling copy that encourages discussion. This method is as simple as finding a controversial news story, giving your honest opinion of it, and encouraging discussion. It not only makes your site current, but it gets people engaged and keeps them coming back for more. For example, earlier this year I posted a controversial email I received. I didn’t think much of it, just found it amusing. However, it generated over 140,000 visitors and over 200 comments to my site. I had no clue that would happen, but the reason was simple: people love controversy and they love to give their opinions. You just have to give them the platform to voice them. To this day that controversial email still generates over 1,000 visitors a day to my site.
If you take a little time to think about and answer these nine questions and implement some improvements to your site based on what you discover, I think you will be pleasantly surprised at how much more relevant your site can become virtually overnight. Think about the reasons you return to the sites that you frequent, and do your best to emulate their role in people’s lives.
Action Steps
- Try to look at your website through the eyes of an outsider to gauge its real value.
- Change or remove old timestamps to instantly freshen up your site.
- Encourage visitors to join your mailing list and then email them with reasons to return.
- Add personal touches that will engage your readers.
- Make sure that your copy is compelling and that it encourages discussion.

Domain Name

A domain name can be thought of as the “address” for your website. Most domains consist of the primary name, plus a top level domain name extension such as .com, .org, or .net . For example, for Yahoo.com the name is “Yahoo” plus the top level domain name extension of .com.

Unlimited Disk space, Data transfer, and Email storage

What do "unlimited disk space, data transfer, and email storage" mean?
It's pretty straightforward: Customers who use Yahoo! Web Hosting can obtain unlimited disk space, data transfer, and email storage if they use their services consistently with the Terms of Service and these paragraphs.
What is appropriate usage?
Yahoo! Web Hosting is designed to serve the web hosting needs of small, independently owned and operated businesses in the United States. It is not appropriate to use our services to support large enterprises or internationally based businesses with a sustained demand that places undue burden on our systems or negatively impacts use by small, independently owned and operated businesses. Yahoo! Web Hosting is a shared web hosting service, which means that a number of customers' web sites and other email or storage services are hosted from the same server. Yahoo! uses abuse controls to help ensure that use of our services does not adversely affect the performance of our system or other customers' sites. It is not appropriate to use an account primarily as an online storage space or for archiving electronic files.
Disk space
If you use your services consistently with the Terms of Service and these paragraphs, your site can grow as large as necessary to meet your small business needs, but to ensure a great experience for all, we will place some constraints on how fast you can grow. The vast majority of our customers' sites grow at rates well within our rules, but our abuse controls may cause a brief delay while we evaluate if expansion is appropriate.
Data transfer
In most cases, if you use our services consistently with the Terms of Service and these paragraphs, visitors to your web site will be able to download and view as much content from your site as they like. However, in certain circumstances, our server processing power, server memory, or abuse controls could limit downloads from your site. You can also upload as much as content as you like each month, subject only to the Terms of Service and the rules that control how fast your site can grow (see above).
Email storage
You do not have to worry about hitting a storage limit if you use our services consistently with the Terms of Service and these paragraphs. Yahoo! will increase your space along with your appropriate small business needs, but our abuse controls may impact the rate of growth or your folder size, and there may be a short delay while we assess your usage. In some cases, creating additional folders or subfolders will help ensure that the system works well for everyone.

What's the difference between redelegation and registrar transfer?

Wondering what's the difference between redelegation and registrar transfer? You're not alone!
Redelegation
When you redelegate your domain, you're telling the company that registered your domain (your registrar) to associate your domain name with new hosting and email services.
To redelegate a domain, you'll just ask your registrar to change your name servers to your new provider's settings. Your registrar — the company that's responsible for your domain records — remains unchanged, and you'll continue paying renewal fees to that provider.
Registrar transfer
A registrar transfer means that you have completely moved your domain name registration from one organization to another, such as from Network Solutions to Melbourne IT. When you transfer your domain to a different registrar, the new registrar becomes responsible for managing your domain renewal and registration records, and you'll pay that provider any associated renewal fees.
How they differ
Registrar transfer and redelegation are independent events: You can redelegate your domain without transferring it to a new registrar, and you can change registrars without changing your hosting provider.
  • When you redelegate your domain, you redirect it to a new hosting or email provider. You'll continue to pay your original reigstrar to manage and renew your domain.
  • When you transfer your domain, you move it to a new registrar, which will then handle everything related to your domain, including renewal.

What are Yahoo Domains

Yahoo! Domains provides a place for individuals and organizations to register a new web address. A Yahoo! Domains account includes the following features:
  • web address (e.g., learn2yoga.com or my-business-name.com)
  • starter web page or domain forwarding
  • email forwarding (e.g., myname@learn2yoga.com)
  • advanced DNS records
If you already own a domain name, you can use it with a Yahoo! plan (a process called redelegation). When you redelegate your domain to Yahoo!, keep in mind that you'll continue to pay your original reigstrar to manage and renew your domain. Yahoo! will not renew your domain.

Top 10 Free SEO Tools

We are often asked which tools we would recommend for D-I-Y webmasters and site
owners. Here are  Top 10 SEO tools available for FREE ………

1. Domain Tools: One of the first steps is choosing a Domain name - there are many tools
to help. We like NameBoy (although it is somewhat prone to availability mistakes), and
NameCheap for a keyword based search. There is great value in buying expiring/expired
domain names - we use TDNAM. Ideally we want to find keyword relvant domains that
have page rank and domain age! Always research potential domain names before
committing to a purchase. For example, check that the Page Rank is not forged, there are
lots of inbound links and it’s an old domain name - CheckPageRanking.com is very useful
for this purpose.

2. Site Investigation / Search Results: If you do not use FireFox as your browser, then
download it now! There are many excellent extensions for FireFox - two which we
recommend are Seoquake / SEO for Firefox.  With Seoquake activated, visit any site you
are interested in and the toolbar reveals all! The parameters displayed can be set in
preferences - so you can see links from Google, Yahoo, etc. The Density info is really
informative - click on the toolbar for full details (you can see at a glance 1 / 2 / 3 / 4
keyword phrases used on the site). SEO for FireFox - in the words of the authors “This tool
was designed to add more data to Google and Yahoo! to make it easier to evaluate the
value and competitive nature of a market. SEO for Firefox pulls in many useful marketing
data points to make it easy get a more holistic view of the competitive landscape of a
market right from the search results.” In addition, to seeing a better landscape in Search
Results, we also like the how “nofollow” links can be highlighted immediately.
If you want to compare two sites for SEO parameters then this site comparison tool is
useful.

3. Where is traffic coming from? What keywords? Google Analytics is an excellent
anlaysis tool and we use it on all our websites. However, we also use Hittail.com to provide
real time results - you can see at a glance where traffic is coming from and what keywords
are driving traffic.  In addition, the tool also suggest keyword phrases you might want to
develop content for!

4. Web 2.0 Tools: There is no doubt that Web 2.0 sites (Stumbleupon, Digg, del.icio.us,
etc.) can drive traffic to your site. We hesitated in presenting this tool, Social Marker, as it
needs to be used responsibly. The tool allows you to submit website pages to a large
number of web 2.0 sites.  Do not SPAM using this tool - you will probably get banned. Yes,
submit important pages to a number of the sites but limit your use sensibly.

5. Checking Link Partners - as your site becomes more popular, you will inevitably
receive requests from webmasters and seo teams to exchange links. It is important to only
exchange links with good neighborhood domains that are related to your theme. We like to
check out sites using Checkpageranking.com Check that the Page Rank is not formed,
how old is the domain, where are they getting their links from?

6. Seo Analyser: It is very important to analyse your home page (and other important
internal keyword pages) / or the competition! We like the Search Engine Optimization
Analysis Tool. This SEO Analysis Tool helps you to analyze and measure the ranking
potential of your web pages.
Also use the classic html validator / ccs validator.

7. Google Tools: Google have a raft of useful tools - they seem to increase monthly. An
account is essential which give you access to Google Mail (excellent mail account),
Webmaster Central (one account for all your websites - tools, links in / out, XML
submission, etc), Google Trends and Search Insight ( this is excellent for seeing trends in
your market, what’s up & coming in terms of keywords being searched, etc.)
Google Keywords: if you are looking for keywords to bring you traffic - this tool will show
you search volumes, competition, and great information for Google Adwords. We also use
this tool to find potential “themes” for the site.

8. SEO Progress: how well is your SEO proceeding? You have optimised your site,
developed links, submitted articles, etc. - now you want to check your progress. We use
DigitalPoint’s Keyword Tracker; the tool allows you to submit keyword / url combinations.
Add as many as you like - the more you add, however, the longer the tool takes to process
your results. Each day you can see the progress of each keyword in Google (and other
search engines).

9. Top 20 Google Results: In terms of traffic, you need to be on page 1or 2  of
Google.com - ideally page 1! With Seodigger.com you can find out for which keywords
your site ranks high enough to be in the Google Top 20. You can analyze your own sites as
well as sites of your competition, using the information obtained for SEO analysis, finding
out how well is a site optimized for this or that search request, and a lot more. Apart from a
list of keyword results, wordtracker and overture daily search volumes results are also
determined. We advise registering for a Free account as you will get more results!

10. LSI or Latent Semantic Indexing: Although this is a little technical, Google relies
heavily on LSI in determining search engine rankings. To find out about more about LSI
visit latentsemanticindexing.co.uk. One of the key elements of LSI is to determine
semantic keywords that should appear on YOUR page(s).  The following site, Just Search
Keyword Nortometer, is very useful. It is a bit rough around the edges but the results will
help enormously.  We also use KwMap and Quintura

Keyword Competition

At Google.com enter the keyword phrase as follows “bass fly fishing” - note the inverted
commas. Look for the number of results just below the Search Box - it will be something
like: Results 1 - 10 of about 21,900 for “bass fly fishing”. We are looking for results that
have less than 30,000 results so we have struck lucky!
Top Tip: Wordpress Blogs are excellent for getting search engines to spider and rank
pages quickly. The ping mechanism will alert the search engines about your new pages so
your page could be in Google in minutes (about 15 minutes in some cases!).

Create Web Page
The next step is to create a page about “Bass Fly Fishing” - make sure the content is
unique and informative. Put Bass Fly Fishing in the meta tag title and content - preferably
towards the beginning. Have a h1 tag in the body content for Bass Fly Fishing. Mention
Bass fly fishing in the first paragraph and use bold around the phrase.  The remainder can
mention the phrase again but do not go overboard - concentrate on making the page
informative. Publish the page.
If you are using Wordpress the “ping” will alert the search engines about your page. If you
can link to the page from other sites - for example, use social bookmarks or submit an
article about Bass Fly fishing to the article directories (making sure there is a link back
from the “Resource Box” to your Bass Fly fishing page).
Check your rankings!

Off Page SEO factors

Just as there are many on page SEO factors, there are also many off page. However, it is
agreed that getting quality links from authority sites is a critical factor in top SERPs. Here
is some guidance:
• One Way Links - not reciprocal or 3 way links (Google can detect both!)
• Links from authority sites - do a search for your keyword on Google. Sites on page
1 are deemed by Google to be important (that is why they are on page 1). Strictly
these are not necessarily “authority” sites but beg, borrow or …. links from these
sites.
• Request a link on THAT page which is listed on page 1 of google (may not be the
home page)
• Choose a “keyword / keyword phrase” that is relevant to the page - use that as the
anchor text
• Link to your site page which is relevant to “keyword / keyword phrase” - use that url
for the anchor url
• Do not always link to your home - deep links are very important
• Vary the anchor text
Getting the links from these top sites may not be easy - be prepared to bribe them with
incentives ….

Traffic Advice

There are 2 definitive laws of SEO: 1) Content, Content, Content 2) Inbound Links. Great
unique content will draw traffic like a magnet. Create content that is constructed using
Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) and Google will be attracted too! There are, of course,
“science” techniques to creating web pages correctly for your content pages. Google
readily admits that inbound links (recommendations) from other sites will enhance your
search engine rankings so it is critical to attract those links. This is an art form not a
science as the laws are not immutable.
Good SEO firms will offer advice that is white hat (above board) and look after your long
term interests. It is tempting to take short term shortcuts - but you do this at your peril.

TOP 10 SEO MYTHS

There are so many myths about SEO Advice that we hope to elucidate and clarify so
called SEO myths below …..

1. SEO is about secret strategies
There is a SEO myth that there are secret strategies and methods employed by SEO
experts that result in top SERPs  (search engine result pages). Of course, this is bunkum
although there are “consultants” who might like to suggest otherwise. There are rigorous
methods and techniques that need to be followed but the information is widely available.
“Secrets” tend to be used by “Black Hat” webmasters who by necessity need to maintain a
wall of silence!

2. Keyword Density is critical
In the early days of “SEO” there was some truth in a magic keyword density formula. The
search engines have evolved and are well aware of pages stuffed with keywords. Although
it is essential to add keyword phrases to a page, there is no magic percentage. The page
should be natural and be designed for the reader rather than the search engine.

3. Content, Content, Content
Although content is essential for a website, content alone will not achieve high SERPs.
There are other factors at work that must be considered. Bear in mind that there are over
100 factors in the Google algorithm (and other search engines will also have equally
complex formulae for working out rankings). ONE of the pre-requisites is good unique
content - but NOT the ONLY factor.

4. Submitting Sites to Search Engines
This myth is probably a hangover from the past when this technique did have some effect.
Do not bother to submit to search engines, instead concentrate on getting a good quality
link(s) from a relevant website. This “recommendation” will not only alert the Search
engines of the new site but also help in getting higher SERPs.  Top Tip: Do not keep
submitting your site to the search engines - this is unnecessary and some “gurus” suggest
that you can get penalised.

5. Guaranteed Rankings / SERPs
“We can guarantee you top SERPs” - this is just not true for competitive keyword phrases.
Yes, it is possible to suggest you can get top rankings for “large fat blue monkeys are rare”
(on an exact match) as there is NO competition. It is important to choose keyword phrases
that you want to rank for carefully - for example, will they bring the type of enquiries you
want? Are they “info” related enquiries or “buy” enquiries? This is a topic on its own!
Whilst talking about this myth - also bear in mind it is impossible to guarantee that SERPs
will remain constant. So a #1 ranking today cannot be guaranteed tomorrow!

6. Links for top SERPs
Links WILL help but it is just ONE of those 100 factors. A link from any site may NOT be a
good link. A link from what Google defines as a “bad neighborhood” can adversely affect
your site. Google does not clarify a “bad neighborhood” but perhaps they are referring to
adult, gambling, racist, etc. sites. Links should be from sites that share your theme; do not
accept links from link or resource pages - they have little value especially if the external
links on the page are to all different themes. Do you really think Google cannot spot a link
Do NOT use services that will provide instant linking to 100s of sites. It will raise a flag with
Google.  Your linking strategy should be planned and be naturally progressive. Check all
sites carefully before linking to them - remember your link is perceived as a
recommendation. If you start recommending bad sites what does that say about YOUR
site?
Concentrate on getting quality links from Authority sites on your theme!

7. WSC Validation required
In an ideal world it would be nice to have every page on your site validated by WSC.
However, unless you have a very diligent webmaster it is an impossible task! It is not
essential that every page is validated from a SEO perspective. However, what IS important
is that the search engine robots can parse your page(s). If they cannot read a page, then
the page will not be included in the index - worse still links on that page may not be
followed. The Lynx viewer and search engine simulator are useful tools for checking what
is seen by the search bots.

8. Search Engines prefer static to dynamic pages
In the bad old days dynamic pages that were accessed with urls such as
www.mydomain.com/link.php?action=view&var=new&country=europe were bad news as
the search spiders did not know how to follow these links with “?” in them. The result was
that dynamic pages were not accessed and indexed. However, those days are gone.
Google says “We can crawl dynamic URLs and interpret the different parameters. We
might have problems crawling and ranking your dynamic URLs if you try to make your urls
look static and in the process hide parameters which offer the Googlebot valuable
information. One recommendation is to avoid reformatting a dynamic URL to make it
look static.”

9. Meta Tags are important
Meta tags were used extensively in the past but again search engines have evolved. It is
the content and structure of the page that is important for SEO purposes. A common
technique was to stuff the “keyword” tag with an endless list of keywords and phrases - do
this at your peril! The title is relatively important as Google uses it to display in their SERPs
(and the description is often used too). So the “title” and “description” should sell your
website. Get the user to click! Google likes your titles and descriptions to be unique. Use
your main keywords in and H1.

10.  High Page Rank required for good SERPs
Google publishes a historic version (up to 3 to 4 months old typically) of your page rank for
every page on your site. This is NOT necessarily the current page rank of the page - it is
re-calculated on a frequent basis (daily?). It is perfectly possible for pages with low page
rank to get top SERPs as there are other factors deciding the SERPs.

SEO------Search Engine Optimization

Search engine optimization is often about making small modifications to parts of your website. When
viewed individually, these changes might seem like incremental improvements, but when combined
with other optimizations, they could have a noticeable impact on your site's user experience and
performance in organic search results. You're likely already familiar with many of the topics in this
guide, because they're essential ingredients for any webpage, but you may not be making the most
out of them.

Even though this guide's title contains the words "search engine", we'd like to say that you should
base your optimization decisions first and foremost on what's best for the visitors of your site. They're
the main consumers of your content and are using search engines to find your work. Focusing too
hard on specific tweaks to gain ranking in the organic results of search engines may not deliver the
desired results. Search engine optimization is about putting your site's best foot forward when it
comes to visibility in search engines.
An example may help our explanations, so we've created a fictitious website to follow throughout the
guide. For each topic, we've fleshed out enough information about the site to illustrate the point being
covered. Here's some background information about the site we'll use:
• Website/business name: "Brandon's Baseball Cards"
• Domain name: brandonsbaseballcards.com
• Focus: Online-only baseball card sales, price guides, articles, and news content
• Size: Small, ~250 pages
Your site may be smaller or larger than this and offer vastly different content, but the optimization
topics we discussed below should apply to sites of all sizes and types

Adsense Formula

The Adsense Variables

TT(High CTR) + Content = Adsense Earnings

Content - try to have a 1000 words of keyphrase-rich content. High CTR - highly optimized placement of the adsense code. TT - Highly Targeted Traffic

Yes that's it. The "Adsense Formula" is just a basic math problem and as we all know any on can learn math. We're not near finished. These variables the make up the Adsense Formula is the key to your success. Why refer to them as variables, because these Adsense elements constantly change and YOU are in full control of them. Imagine a indoor plant and its variables. Sunlight, Soil PH, CO2, Fertilizer, and Water. You control every variable and if each one is highly optimized then you will have a healthy fast-growing plant. If you highly optimize each adsense variable then you will in turn receive a healthy fast growing adsense income.
Now that we have an understanding let's evaluate this "Adsense Formula."

Adsense Content

Keywords are a bad idea! High paying or not. In fact don't choose high paying keywords, not because of the saturation of SEO experts, but because keywords are to broad. Adwords is ying and Adsense is yang. Broad keywords have low payouts and CTR. You want to target keyphrases, so your site only displays high paying adsense ads, not .15 adsense ads from some beginner with one of your terms in their adwords campaign. There is a lot of free content online, but it is best to use unique content for search engine purposes. To accomplish this hire a writer or choose niche subjects that you are familiar with, so that you can write your own articles and e-books. Don't base your site on money rather than your passion. Example. My passion is computers and networking.

Adsense CTR

Optimal adsense ad placement is the heart of high adsense ctr. There are four locations on a webpage the receives the most clicks.

1. Just above the fold. The fold is the end of the section of the page you can view without scrolling.

2. All along side the left column.

3. In your content, if very interesting and informative.

4. At the end of your content after a reader finishes.

Adsense ad format effects ctr greatly whether or not they are placed in the right spots. Squares receive the most clicks, beginning with the largest and so on. The ads should blend with your page. Only the link title should be a different color than the text and url. No borders unless red or yellow. They attract viewer's eyes. The link color should match your site's links, but blue and red work the best. Incredibly Increase your adsense ctr up to 400% by placing related images above or to the left of adsense ads.

Highly Targeted Traffic

Yes, there is a difference between targeted traffic and highly targeted traffic. Someone looking for an online business would be targeted traffic to this article, but someone looking for an adsense business would be a highly targeted visitor. Why high quality traffic? Your Ctr will be amazing and unbelievable because all of your traffic will be looking for YOUR site. Don't be surprised if you have certain days where 97% of your visitors clicked an adsense ad. How? Blogs, Articles, E-books, Rss Feeds, and most SERP(search engine results page) traffic. Never use traffic exchanges or links from other sites unless their content is similar to yours.

Increase Traffic and Make Money With Google AdSense Part 3

My traffic is beginning to come to my hubs and other sites, but nothing, nothing is making me money!!: Well, go online into Google, or Yahoo (I do both) and type in some of your keywords. See where it gets you, most of the time some of your hubs will be found on page six or seven. This is not so good, as most hubs which make money for you need to be at the very least on the first two pages of ANY search engine. Now, some will argue to focus only on Google, but the other search engines have value as well.
So the question you need to ask is where are my links coming from? What about how I have my site set up? What about the Search Engines? These are the basic questions you need to ask yourself.
If for example I write a hub and then put links to all the social networking sites and then begin to write another hub adding a link to the older hub will that help me? Somewhat, but if you wan tot make money it probably won't. You have simply done the most basic thing you can do which is building a link, but it needs to go beyond that.
What about your keywords? See, this is something similar to links and to SEO in my mind since most people simply put a bunch of words they THINK will help them, and then add it to their hubs. Often this is the worst things you could do for your hub. See, Google and the other search engines are smart, they can figure things out.
What they are looking for is good content and good keywords. Traffic from the search engines is written about a lot since if you want to make money you need the traffic to come from the search engines. Look at your competition, if a keyword has the top ten sites as wikipedia, well you are probably not going to out link or out optimize this site.
Aim well, and use Keyword searches to your advantage. I sue Google AdWords as a starting point in finding out a few extra keywords that help with my traffic or will help improve my content. This helps make my hubs stronger. when a hub is stronger, (content) and you have good links, traffic will come and so will the money. Think like a business.

The Last Word--- most people do not like to hear that links and content and traffic and SEO and all these things relate but they do, you need to keep writing and keep learning. This is a business, and you need to have a rather thick skin and understand that some will love your hub and some will not. Again this is a business. You might or might not be right but....
Frankly, your content will prove if you are correct or not, you will get traffic and you must at all times be the most professional person you can be. You need to care about comments and you need to write well. You also need to learn. Even I am still learning, and it is thanks to so many hub writers that I can say I will always be learning.
Keep writing, keep aiming to make money, keep linking, and keep learning, and with traffic will come what you want money.
To your success.
